SLUCare anesthesiologists are leaders in the St. Louis area, offering superior sedation treatment, from planning before your surgery to their work in the O.R. and during your post-operative care.
Our team is made up of doctors from Saint Louis University School of Medicine, board-certified anesthesiologists who specialize in cardiac anesthesia, pediatric anesthesia, acute pain medicine and critical care medicine. Our physicians bring the best scientific evidence to the bedside, and as part of an academic medical practice, educate tomorrow's leaders in anesthesiology and pain medicine.
Due to their extensive training in clinical physiology/pharmacology and resuscitation, our critical care anesthesiologists are uniquely qualified to coordinate treatment for people in the ICU. SLUCare's team of specially trained cardiac anesthesiologists uses the latest diagnostic tools available to care for you during your heart procedure, including transesophageal echocardiography to assess the overall function of the heart's chambers and valves.
Transesophageal echocardiography can determine the presence of some types of heart disease, including valvular disease, myocardial disease, pericardial disease and congenital heart disease. SLUCare cardiac anesthesiologists use this information to provide you with the best care possible during and after your surgery.
SLUCare's acute pain management team aggressively prevents pain during your medical treatments using a variety of techniques, including peripheral nerve blocks, continuous peripheral catheters, patient controlled IV analgesia (PCA) and epidural catheters.
With these techniques, our patients have greater pain relief, allowing them to recover and regain normal function more quickly. Our team has a dedicated member on staff at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital at all times to assess and address pain issues, and to create individualized treatment plans tailored to our patients' needs.
SLUCare critical care medicine specialists are fellowship-trained and board-certified in treating critically ill or injured patients. Practicing primarily in the surgical intensive care units (SICU) at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital, our team includes highly trained nurses, respiratory therapists, resident physicians and other staff dedicated to treating critically ill and injured patients.
We care for people with a wide range of complex medical problems, including infection, heart disease, and liver, kidney, and respiratory failure. Our team is involved with a patient's care before any planned surgery and makes sure that the patient is in optimal condition prior to proceeding to the operating room. We also coordinate anesthesia care with our colleagues in the operating room, and we provide all post-operative care.
SLUCare critical care medicine specialists participate in patient care around the clock until the patient is well enough to be discharged to a less intensive setting. In addition, as part of an academic medical practice, our critical care team is involved in the education of hospital staff and physician residents to ensure our patients receive the best possible care.
SLUCare's team of specially skilled pediatric anesthesiologists provide care around the clock at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital. Our anesthesia services include pre-operative assessment and the preparation of patients and their families for surgery or diagnostic procedures. We also provide anesthesia or sedation for these procedures, as well as post-operative recovery care and pain management.
SLUCare pediatric anesthesiologists focus on providing excellent care with a commitment to safety and quality. Our team also enjoys the privilege of working in SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital's 12 state-of-the-art operating rooms, which include the most contemporary and sophisticated equipment currently available.
