Diabetes is a complex, lifelong disease that requires careful treatment and daily management. Whether you’re newly diagnosed or further along in your journey, you don’t have to face this disease alone.

Through the SLUCare Diabetes Clinic, we’ll help you understand your condition and what you can do to manage the disease most effectively. We offer comprehensive care for diabetes, including:

  • Diabetes education and counseling, accredited by the American Diabetes Association (ADA)
  • Continuous glucose monitoring
  • Medication management
  • Intensive insulin pump therapy/management
  • Nutrition counseling
  • Hypoglycemia management

Delivering Innovative Care

Advances in technology are opening up new treatment options for diabetes. Innovative Blood Surgar Reading Method for DiabeticContinuous glucose monitors, for example, help eliminate the need for daily finger sticks. These small devices are inserted into the skin to track blood sugar levels at regular intervals, 24 hours a day, providing information about blood sugar patterns. You can even shower and swim with the device attached.

As part of our program, SLUCare endocrinologists use continuous glucose monitoring to track your blood sugar levels, which helps us develop an individualized care plan for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a charge for diabetes education?

Yes. Please verify coverage with your insurance plan prior to your scheduled appointment. See SLUCare’s list of accepted insurance plans.

How do I verify if my insurance will cover diabetes education?

Call your insurance carrier to verify your coverage. Ask: Do my benefits cover diabetes education? Nutrition counseling with a dietitian? If so, how many visits? What is the out-of-pocket cost?

How can I get medications and supplies refilled?
Please contact your pharmacy and ask them to fax a refill request to 314-977-5177. Allow one week for refills.

What if I have questions between visits?
We encourage all patients to use MyChart, a free online health management tool that allows you to email questions to your provider, review your after visit summary, see upcoming appointments, request an appointment or prescription refill, access your test results and more.

I’m a medical provider. How do I make a referral to the Diabetes Clinic?
Health care providers can use EPIC to place a referral to SLUCare Endocrinology. Following a referral, patients will be seen by one of our endocrinologists and then referred either to group diabetes education classes or individualized education.
